This week’s prestigious “Hoop Dawg Player of the Week” Award goes to (drumroll) Trey Thompkins.
Trey had 19 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals in a losing effort against St. John’s in the SEC/Big East Invitational. He established himself as the team’s scoring leader early in the game, and kept the Dawgs in it at the beginning of the first half (Ricky McPhee was the first person other than Trey to score a FG with 11:57 left).
Is it wrong to hope he doesn’t do too well so that he doesn’t leave for the NBA? I think not.

That’s a tough question. I would say that at this point, he will probably be around next year…it’s not so likely that he will be at Georgia for his senior year. What do you think?

Honestly, I think he hasn’t proven nearly enough so far this season to justify a jump to the NBA after this season. I was expecting him to come out and be far more impressive against the the cupcakes at the beginning of this season considering the amount of experience he got during the off-season in the U-19 championships. Also, outside of Travis Leslie there isn’t another legitimate scoring threat on the team and I feel like NBA worthy players should be able to shoulder the burden and score 20 pts a game on a roster that features Ricky McThree at SG.
