The Polee Plot Thickens

According to the LA Times, Dwayne Polee, Sr. has tendered his resignation at USC where he had been the Director of Basketball Operations since 2007.

You know what else occurred in 2007?  A high school freshman by the name of Dwayne Polee, Jr. verbally committed to Tim Floyd and the USC Trojans.

Hmmm.  Son (who is a phenom basketball player) commits to college; college hires Dad.  Son de-commits from college (USC); Dad resigns.  This is all very hard to put together (please excuse the sarcasm).

I have now decided that I do not want Dwayne Polee, Jr. to be a Bulldog next year – though I don’t think the Dawgs are really in it anyways at this point.  The fact that he continues to postpone his decision, and keeps adding new schools (Oregon, St. Johns, UTEP) to his “list” makes it seem fairly clear that Georgia is not on his mind (or he would have committed a month ago since Fox has been recruiting him for a while now).

It appears that to get Polee, Jr. to commit, a door has to be opened for Polee, Sr.

I love everything that Coach Mark Fox has done with the UGA basketball program up to this point.  Hiring Polee, Sr. for some bogus operations job in Athens in order to get Polee, Jr. to sign a letter-of-intent would be a step back to the days of Jim Harrick.

If that is what it takes to get this kid, then let him be a Duck, Miner or Johnnie…just not a Bulldog.

    1. Not to be pessimistic, but I just can’t say (honestly) that I think MT is going to choose UGA over Kentucky or Texas – those are two monster programs.

  1. Here-here! Where-where? There-there!

This Polee Plot smells poopy! These primadonnas are really changing the recruiting landscape of late. And I agree with you, Hoop… let him go… anywhere but here at UGA. Coach Fox is a sly dawg, and he won’t tolerate this kind of runaround. He is building something special here, for the long haul, and I don’t see Polee staying long anywhere he ends up.

  2. It might not be so bad is Jr commits to UGA and Sr goes to work somewhere else. Doubtful, but it could happen.

We all know that a package deal is in the works, and probably with Steve Lavin – the Harrick clone!

  3. Over react much? The kid is a phenomenal basketball player and as long as we keep what we do on the up-and-up we’ll be fine. We want Dwayne Polee, and there’s a decent chance we still get him. If he goes where his dad goes, so be it – we’ll leave that for the NCAA to investigate. We’ll continue to recruit him until he commits, as we should.

  4. I believe it’s an NCAA violation for the school to hire a family member so I don’t think this is an issue. Unless the said school is just that dumb.

  5. AJC has just reported that Polee has confirmed a commitment to St. Johns. So be it–I was getting awfully tired of all the drama myself. Let’s hope that we can appeal to MT, who is probably a better selection for this program anyway.

  6. Every remember that Andy Landers hired the Mom of a top recruit to an assistant coach position.

Steve Lavin is an awful choice to play for. He ran ucla into the dirt and St John’s will regret they ever saw him. And that’s regardless of where Polee signs.

  7. Anyone know how many scholarships we have left to offer? Is it one or two? I was thinking we had two left. Hopefully we can nab Marcus Thornton and/or Tahj Tate. ESPN also has us targeting another JUCO player named Justin Johnson… 6’5″ 205lbs Small Forward out of Florida.
