Georgia basketball adding some games

The Georgia Bulldogs Men’s basketball team will open up the 2012-2013 season against the Jacksonville University Dolphins on Friday November 9th in Athens.  The Dolphins, who hail from the Atlantic Sun conference, finished last year with an 8-22 record.

Looking ahead to 2014, it appears that the Dawgs will play in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) Season Tip-Off, a 16-team tournament that was won last season by Syracuse.

The game with Jacksonville should serve as a nice warm-up for Georgia before they begin play in the 2012 Legends Classic.  The Dawgs will serve as one of the regional hosts for this prestigious tournament along with Georgetown, Indiana and UCLA.  The championship double-headers will be played on November 19-20 at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Coach Mark Fox’s team could see Tony Parker very early in the season – in a UCLA uniform.

  1. I like Mark Fox’s aggressive scheduling. His points in the recruiting article (referenced in the last post) are well taken BUT, I’ll simply add that he has missed on a disproportinate share on the elite talent in the state of Georgia over the past three years and he needs to step it up if our program is ever to be relevant on a regular basis.

  2. I like the scheduling too.

I also do not like Fox’s recent comments about recruiting. He signed under the radar types at Nevada, but he does not have to do that at UGA.

His approach to recruiting seems similar to GT Football ‘s Paul Johnson– “Oh well, the highly rated kids from GA won’t come here, but that’s okay.”

    1. You over estimate what is realistic for Georgia recruiting at this point. There are few reasons why any top recruit would want to play basketball at UGA right now. Give Fox a few winning seasons and a few NCAA shows then we can talk about expecting top talent.

  3. UC-Irvine, Duquesne, James Madison, Liberty, NDakota st, and Sam Houston St. are 6 of the 8 other participants in the Legends Classic-my guess would be JMU and Liberty coming to Athens.
